Ministries

Children Ministry

Here at First United Methodist Church, we have several opportunities for children to learn and serve in the church family. Sunday school runs September through May on Sunday mornings during worship service. Children site with their parents through the first part of the service then go for their Bible lesson and activities for the remainder of the service. Children participate in the worship service by being candle lighters, reading scripture, and periodically singing together the songs they have learned. During the summer months, First United Methodist Church puts together an interactive and fun Vacation Bible School for children of all ages. As the Bible directs in Proverbs 22:6 – Start children off the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

Youth Ministry

The First United Methodist Youth Group is made up of youth between the 6th – 12th grades. We gather to have fun in fellowship, study, and worship as we explore what it means to follow Jesus in our everyday lives. The group meets twice a month during the school year. Among them, those who were baptized when they were infants and now 7th grade and older can participate in the Confirmation Class which is held throughout the school year.

Young adult ministry

Those who are 20s or 30s or maybe early 40s are gathering together with their children and share genuine relationship and fellowship, sharing life and faith. Food and laughter are bonus!

Adult Sunday School

The Sunday morning Adult Bible Study class is open to all ages. This group shares wonderful discussions centered around both seasonal and general curriculum, which is scripture-based. Some courses use DVD clips to enhance the study book readings. Class members meet year-round, with a month off in mid-summer.

United methodist Women

UMW (United Methodist Women) is a service organization, which supports women, youth, and children. Our funds are directed toward missions or to the local church for special projects. Meetings are held during the school year and special gatherings are held for a Good Friday Breakfast and Thanksgiving thank offering service. We are open to all.

Keepers of the Light

Keepers of The Light are a group of volunteers that help with outreach to church members and others. Once a month a volunteer along with Rev. Kim visit shut-ins in their homes or nursing homes to take Communion to them. Also, once a week on Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. one of our volunteers has a short service and another plays the piano for singing of hymns for residents at Jonesbrook assisted living. This group at Jonesbrook is also given Communion the first Monday of the month and at that service Rev.
Kim gives the Holy Communion.

Hospitality Ministry

Our ministry includes active hospitality which is evident for members and visitors during our fellowship following our church services on Sundays. Our hospitality team is seeking ways to be involved in an outreach program and provide healthy snacks at the Falls City Library and Arts Center to those in need. More community activities are being discussed. “Come and see.” John 1:39

Choir

The Church Choir:
– Welcomes all singers.
– Sings most Sundays from September-May and at the Christmas Eve Service.
– Rehearses on Monday from 5pm-6pm and Sunday at 9:30am.
– Performs a wide variety of contemporary to traditional religious music.
– Loves to share their passion of music with the congregation.

Mission Team

The core persons in the Mission Team provide leadership, information and access to projects for the congregation. Local community mission opportunities, as well as national and global projects or services are supported. Two of the current programs we at First UMC support are the orphanage in Jalingo, Nigeria and the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes for Samaritan’s Purse. Locally, we support the Food Pantry and Falls City Area Ministerial Association.

Prayer Team

Our church maintains a prayer chain for those who are in need of prayer for death, illness, or special concerns. You can reach Tami Dunn or the church office or the pastor to begin the prayer chain.

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.” (1 John 5:14)
